Three Bethlehem art exhibits open with their receptions this Friday. There will be drinks, refreshment, good company, and amazing art.
From 5-7pm the Gallery at WREN presents the opening reception of Small Works | Annual WREN Member Exhibit. The exhibit features the works of WREN members working in a wide range of media, sharing one constraint: the work must measure less than 12”x12” or 144 square inches. Acrylic and oil paintings, photography, pastels, watercolors, batiks, fiber art, sculpture, mosaics and mixed media collages are but a sampling of what’s in store for the public at this celebrated yearly exhibit.
From 6-8pm, Maia Papaya will host a reception for artist Stacey Lucas (Veggie Art GIrl) as she presents some of her latest works: handpainted, upcycled, folk-ish, funky art! There will be music from Ericka Cushing and a raffle for some art.
From 7-9pm, 42 Maple will host a reception for Kirsten Carruth. She re-works the images and incorporates the story on to reclaimed wooden doors and panels. Although these pieces are child-centered, she finds that they have more of an adult connection. This may be because the stories remind us of the memories of our own childhood, or that images used for the inspirations for the pieces come before a time these stories were softened and “Disney-fied” , and still retain their dark undertones and underlying lessons and values that parents tried to instill. The works are one of a kind, and have been painted with everyday household latex paint, and distressed using a stain rub.
